Choirs up and down the country are enthusiastically taking to the stage once again to mark the return of the time-honoured tradition of choral music in front of a live audience.
London Oriana Choir marked the occasion with a concert entitled Resound! in the Opera Holland Park Theatre on Monday July 19th, featuring Joseph Haydn’s intoxicating late masterpiece, the Nelson Mass, as the centrepiece, and works in contrasting styles by diverse composers spanning the centuries, such as Vittoria Aleotti, Henrich Schütz, Jessica Curry, Charles Villiers Stanford and Eleanor Daley.
Two world premieres featured in the programme with In The Blue by Anna Disley-Simpson, the final commission from the choir’s fourth composer-in-residence under its five15 initiative in support of women composers, and Harlem Night Song by choir member Tara Mack.
The choir was joined by City of London Sinfonia, orchestra-in-residence for the 2021 Opera Holland Park season, and four rising stars from the OHP Young Artists Scheme: Siân Dicker (soprano), Hannah Bennett (mezzo), Guy Withers (tenor) and Alex Jones (bass).
